A Past Revisited

Video games, though a new medium, have proven themselves capable of handling ancient themes. With their interactivity, they bring a new way of telling tales to the table. The audience is not merely sitting back and soaking in a tale; instead, they've become active participants, helping weave old stories in new ways. With the click of a button or the push of a trigger, people can become fully immersed in a story--they are no longer mere listeners or viewers, but rather players, like actors on a stage, moving and directing myths to their will.

Many games--including the ones covered in this site--come from Japan. It's a nation, like many, that truly loves its stories, and is eager to present them again and again to new generations. Hundreds of years ago, those tales would've been told through word of mouth, or even books or scrolls. Today, they're told through film--and video games. Mythic influence in today's titles shouldn't be surprising. Each era has its own way of communicating. It just so happens that these days, games are one of them.
